Medical Play

Medical Play is the use of medical uniforms and medical instruments in a BDSM scene. During a medical scene, pain and humiliation are used to “stimulate" the submissive. Many items are used in medical play such as needles (not syringes), catheters, intimate examination, enemas, and medical restraints (such as straight jackets). I would like to talk today about two of these implements used in medical play; sounds and the speculum.


Sounds are metal rods in different sizes, which are slightly curved on the ends. In actual medical purposes, sounds are used for gradually, gently enlarging the urethra or for measurements. In a BDSM medical scene they can be a source of exceptional stimulation or torture. With the addition of a metal butt plug, electricity can be conducted down the sound and through the prostate. The pleasure can be brought to such a high level that it hurts.

Another popular medical device in the medical BDSM scene is the speculum. The medical application of the device is examination of the rectum. The speculum is made of steel in a duckbill shape with two "jaws" which "open" with a screw-type mechanism. This action stretches the opening to give a clear view down the center into the rectum. There are also plastic disposable variations of specula. Objects can be inserted through the opening into the cavity. It also allows for pouring cool or warm water into the opening. A word of caution, though, DO NOT use water that is too hot and DO NOT use ice since they can permanently damage the delicate tissue lining inside the rectum.

This sort of play is not something you should engage in with someone who is inexperienced or who does not understand all the necessary precautions because your fun could result in infection, injury, or other traumatic problems.
