Mentoring

As all of my readers know, my BDSM relationships have not gone well in the last two years. After much soul searching and self-defacement, I have come to realize that I did a disservice to both of my boys. They were both very eager and I allowed myself to think it was in the interests of us to collar them. It was a poor choice. While those relationships no longer exist, I do still feel a need to share myself.

I do get to play a lot. Dallas is a happening town and I take advantage of that. Great BDSM play and awesome sex is a very good thing, but I want to do more. To do this I have started mentoring.

“Mentoring is a process for the informal transmission of knowledge, social capital, and the psychosocial support perceived by the recipient as relevant to work, career, or professional development; mentoring entails informal communication, usually face-to-face and during a sustained period of time, between a person who is perceived to have greater relevant knowledge, wisdom, or experience (the mentor) and a person who is perceived to have less (the protégé)" (Bozeman, B.; Feeney, M. K. (October 2007). "Toward a useful theory of mentoring: A conceptual analysis and critique". Administration & Society 39 (6): 719–739. doi:10.1177/0095399707304119. http://aas.sagepub.com/cgi/content/abstract/39/6/719). I find that this has become very lacking in some of our communities.

I currently mentor two boys. They are both great men (or I wouldn’t waste my time). They bring different challenges to me that I embrace. Lets face it, mentoring a boy is the closest thing I will ever have to a son. It is a joy to see the joy in their eys after they have taken their first single tailing or flogging. Seeing them both grow into upstanding men in the BDSM community warms my heart.

There many different ways to share our lives with others. Mentoring is just one such way. Find a way that works for you and keep the BDSM community strong.
