Collars

                       Dress Collar

Today's topic is one that tends to fascinate those that have no experience with it; collars. In the BDSM world, the collar has a very distinct meaning. Technically speaking, it is any type of material placed round the neck of a submissive by a Dominant.

The principle of the collar can be followed back to the collaring of slaves in the Empire of Rome. This collar was a sign of ownership and was obviously not consensual. Today, it has several different meanings but a common treatment.

As every BDSM relationship is different (Master/slave, Master/pup, Dominant/submissive), the meaning of each collar is different. I am a slave boy that serves my Master. He placed a collar around my neck. For us, the collar represents the commitment of our BDSM relationship, Master’s ownership of me, and my eternal service and obedience to him. It is our version of a wedding band. A collar symbolizes a deeply rooted commitment between Dominant and submissive. In the relationship between my Master and his slave boy, I consented to being collared by my Master. I will remain in Master’s collar until He decides to remove it.
A Dominant gives His collar with pride. The Dominant might view the collar as a symbol of ownership or surrender of the submissive or slave. It can become a symbol of their union, agreement, and their dedication to a common goal. Submissives wear it in devotion to the one having the power in the relationship, the Master. Submissives feel strength and security in the collar - thus in their power exchange. It evokes in a slave the profound depth of service to their Owner. It evokes feelings of their calling into slavery. It also serves as a reminder of place and status in the power exchange. A collar gives its wearer protection. It can be freeing to have that collar around my neck because it means that I am not denying my authentic self.

Protocols in dealing with collared persons are many. A mortal sin to avoid in dealing with a collared person is touching or grabbing the collar. In my case, it is my Master’s collar. By touching or grabbing it without His permission, you are disrespecting His property and showing contempt for His slave. The Master and the slave will not take nicely to this. Unfortunately, this has happen three times since Master collared me. I have never walked up to a man or woman and ripped off their wedding band. My reaction to this is normally very aggressive. The first man that grabbed my collar picked himself up off of the floor when I placed his hand on the elbow of the same arm and shoved him. My suggestion is that if you are not sure, ask the Master.

Collars are very important and even sacred to those that give them and those that wear them. As members of the BDSM community, we should be proud of each and every one that is seen. Some people even look good in a collar, i.e. Pup Dave.
